HOW TO SELECT PERENNIALS FOR SALE

Step into any well-stocked landscaping store and you'll easily find over two hundred to three hundred different kinds of perennials for sale. Selecting ones that appeal to you, your environment, and your lifestyle may seem almost impossible - especially to the beginning gardener. There are just so many of them to choose from! As with any large group of selections, you can successfully pick out the plants that appeal to you by using a strategy.

One strategy you can use is to assess the amount of time, energy, and knowledge that you have about these kinds of plants. If it's at a minimum (be honest), you should select "easy" perennials for sale. By "easy," we mean plants that require little monitoring (care, feeding, watering, etc.). Appropriate for absolute beginners, these types of plants include the bear's breech, the torch lily (also known as red hot poker), the lady's mantle, the mallow, the catmint, the balloon flower, the black-eyed susan, the goldenrod, and more. Of course, you'll also be interested in plants that survive for long periods of time (consequently giving you ample time to practice your gardening skills!). These include lily of the nile, blue star, goat's beard, sea holly, plume poppy, bluebells, solomon's seal, matilija poppy, and toad lily perennials for sale.

Another strategy you can use is to determine what type of soil you will place these plants in. If the soil in your environment is of a poor quality, the yarrow, the globe thistle, the hardy ageratum, the cranesbill, virginia bluebells, evening primrose, and/or the moss phlox plant would thrive in your garden. If the soil in your environment is dry, look for blue star, blackberry lily, bluestem, statice, betony, or spiderwort perennials for sale. On the other hand, you'll find the goatsbeard, turtlehead, yellow flag, burnet, calla perennials for sale more appropriate if your soil is consistently wet. Soil with a pH greater than seven will better serve Jupiter's Beard, Globe Thistles, Baby's Breath plants or Primrose perennials for sale.

Some people like to use nature to attract harmless and beautiful creatures like insects and birds. Do you like butterflies? You can bring them to your home by purchasing and planting hollyhock, rockcress, wallflower, mexican daisy, sunflower, lavender, jacob's ladder, pincushion flower, and/or meadow rue perennials for sale. If you'd like to attract hummingbirds instead, select foxglove, coral bells, monkey flower, bee balm, and/or beardtongue perennials for sale. Perhaps you'd like to simply surround your home with beautiful natural scents. For this purpose, you can look for queen of the prairie, peony, primrose, or sweet violet perennials for sale. You will of course, want to do what's necessary in order to control the bee population that these strongly scented flowers are sure to attract!
