Water Garden Plants Give Life To Your Setup - Figuratively And Literally Speaking

A water garden without vegetation is comparable to a park without trees. Water and slabs alone do not really make a great setup. It'll need a touch of green to bring it to life, figuratively and literally speaking.
Hence, water garden plants are among the primary considerations of water garden owners whenever they'd commence on building their setup or embarking on maintenance work.
The value of vegetation for any water garden setup is immeasurable.
* Plants add color to the otherwise dull-schemed tones of water gardens. Water is colorless. Stones, rocks and slabs are monotonous. * Plants provide sustenance for aquatic life you might want to include in your water garden. Plants will be the heart of the mini-ecosystem that you'd eventually have to establish for your setup. * Plants help break down hazardous substances that may have been deposited in the water supply.
The most popular water garden plants are the lilies and the lotuses. These aquatic plants float on water. They extend their roots below the surface to gather their much needed nutrients from the water itself. They will not drown, unlike conventional plants, nor will they be in danger of undue withering.
Other kinds of water garden plants are the fairy moss (so named because of the radiant green color and detailed texture), water shield (because of the shape of their leaves), water hyacinth with their bell-shaped exterior, water poppy (again, so named because of their bright flowers that seem to explode on water), lesser duckweed, mosaic plant, floating heart, water lettuce, bladderwort, Victoria lily, and the water meal.
Bear in mind, however, that if you're going to introduce plants for your water garden, you must be able to commit yourself to regularly maintain the setup, especially if your water garden is quite sizable. Water garden plants multiply at a brisk pace. In a matter of days, if left unattended, you may not be able to see the surface of the water because it shall be covered by these plants.
Weather should also be a consideration in choosing the plants for your setup. Climate is hardly a factor, but wind and snow can provide a problem. In any event, you could always opt for artificial plants to complement your water garden. You're sure about their hardiness, and you won't have to worry about their lifespan.
Still, nothing beats natural, so it is recommended that hardier water plants, such as lilies, water shields and duck weeds be preferred if ever you're staying in a locale with temperamental weather conditions.
